Soon will every good game need internet activation?

By good i mean , highly anctipated like cod 6, alien or bioshock 3I mean the only game i can think of that doesnt have it is call of duty. I have to get my pc over to my friends house every time i want to install a internet activated game and mean while the game is being cracked all over the world.Im looking towards getting a consle now since nearly every game has it, well that and my pc needs aupgradeSoon will every good game need internet activation?
Huh? nothing wrong with internet activation... enjoy wasting money on consoles and spending more ahahaha in the long run pc gaming is way cheaper and better quality. But meh do what you like and think what you like. Doesnt change my life one bit. Bye.Soon will every good game need internet activation?
Well, as long as I still can network without 16 different cd keys I'm happy.
For the most part, DRM, particularly online activation, has never really bothered me. I mean, companies have been using online activation for operating systems and software programs for years. It was only a matter of time before they began to effectively cross over to games. It's just like with CD-Keys. Microsoft was using CD-Keys for it's products years before anyone else really started to use it.

but its basically saying *%26^% you to pc gamers without internet or fast intenet, i mean it basically forces you to download a 50mb patch and then jump through personal info and other loops just to play a game you already paid for and then theres the hidden rootkits and who knows what that gets installed
Huh? nothing wrong with internet activation... enjoy wasting money on consoles and spending more ahahaha in the long run pc gaming is way cheaper and better quality. I don't think you're allowed being called a pc gamer if you're on 56k
What do you mean 'soon'.Hasn't it already happened.
I like how steam works.I have mixed opinions about other forms of internet activation though.
I'm in your camp jamesee, I by far prefer and try to support those titles when feasible that don't use activation-based DRM. Although, as a digital-distribution service and the advantages that it brings (I still prefer buying retail though), I don't think Steam's inherent form of DRM isn't ''bad'' at all, it's a good alternative. At any rate, just fyi:
Ubisoft has released a few titles recently completely DRM-free (Prince of Persia, Endwar, Tom Clancy's HAWX). New and upcoming titles from Aspyr Media will be DRM-free, at least in North America (Men of War, Cryostasis, Necrovision, Death Track: Resurrection, 4X4 Hummer). It was recently revealed that EA is going to release The Sims 3 without activations and only with a disc-check. PC games don't get much ''bigger'' than The Sims LOL. It remains to be seen the direction EA takes with other games, but this reversal is at least quite inspiring. There are many others that are only using a disc-check (Call of Duty titles, Fallout 3, The Dark Eye: Drakensang, etc, etc)
or are DRM-free (Demigod, Braid, World of Goo, anything from Gog.com, etc, etc) as well.Do what you need to do though bud, if console games for now are delivered and controlled in a manner you find more agreeable, don't hesitate to play your games there. If you still want to play games on the PC, just try to be diligent in your research, stay informed, and definitely support the titles you find agreeable when possible. There's still plenty to enjoy on the PC IMO! ;)
If it does then looks like I will be saving a lot of money.
I hope not every game.

Some games might already be using the button(s) it is selected to take pictures with. That has happened to me, so i changed the screenshot button to F3 and it works with most games. Go to options and under CHAT, select the SCREENSHOT KEY BINDING,and change it to what ever you want (something that Bioshock doesnt use as a key to play.. try a few if needed)Hope that helps!

Try a diffrent hotkey.
Sometimes with certain skins, I've had problems taking screenshots. So you might want to try reverting back to the default skin and try it.

Two suggestions, in this order:1) Do a search for something like, ''Oblivion Vista Install Problem'' and see what comes up. 2) go to the Oblivion specific boards on this website and post there.  Mebbe they can help you.
Sounds like a directx problem, Go here,http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?xinput1_3
Did that work? I am having the same problem and i am running win xp.
What is your specs? Maybe the video card is not good enough.
I'd update your DirectX version and make sure your disc isn't damaged. I don't think your videocard has anything to do with it because I've never heard of a videocard having to do with an installation.

The solution is to rename or delete C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional, reboot, and retry the install.

• Romance RPG Games?

Hi

Me and my girlfriend have just played Vampire The Bloodlines Masquerade, and we thought, to be frank, it rocked. We were wondering if there was any games similar to it, but, as she's screaming in my ear right now, with more ROMANCE!!!!111121212111

She's looking for something like it anyways, with romance. Could you guys recommend any good games for the pc that has elements such as being a vampire, romance and the ability to play as a woman (STOP SCREAMING WOMAN).

Help would be appreciated as my fail google searches return nothing.

Thanks. :)Romance RPG Games?
Try Mass Effect. There is also romance in Baldur's Gate II.Romance RPG Games?
mass effect, kotor, nwn2 and witcher all have varying degrees of it, but honestly..., no games have any real romanceits just kinda on the sideif you're looking for romance in videogames you're looking in the wrong place
Mass Effect and The Witcher both feature... interpretations of romance.

Most romance in computer games is pretty juvenile. I can't think of any games that feature genuinely great romances.
Humm... Rise of the Argonauts has a romantic plotline, but the game isn't that good, so I hear.
Thank you for the help guys. It's not really got my girlfriend off my back, but I'm sure she believes me when I said there was few games with romance in it.

Thanks again! :)
Try The Witcher,Final Fantasy7 or The Last Remnant bud!Thats awesome your lady plays rpgs with ya ;)
The best romances are in the final fantasy series. Tell her to play ff7 or ff8. I'm sure she'd love them.:DI did, and few games out there have ever reached the emotional content and romance of the ff series.
Perhaps The Sims 2? Yeah...its not really an rpg but females do tend to like the game. Heck...I like the game too(mainly in the construction side), I'll admit that. You got your romance side and some stats you can upgrade such as speech or fitness (so its somewhat like an rpg). The Sims 3 is coming out soon, but you can pick up part 2 for a real cheap price. I got my copy along with the nightlife expansion for $5.
^and i'm pretty sure nightlife lets you be a vampire.
speaking of romance in CRPG, no game comes close to Baldur's Gate 2, and its various NPC and ramance mods. but I guess this kind of 2d, texty antique should just be forgotten completely.
Thanks people. :)

My girlfriend knows about the sims 2. KNOWS THE SIMS 2. She has every Sims game, 1 and 2, a likely to continue the tradtion onto the Sims 3. :(

I will deffos check these suggestions out and thanks again! :D
all the H-stuff from japan oh wait that's not what u wanted oh well :P
The latest Prince of Persia game. Also Prince of Persia the Sands of Time.Oops, sorry I just realized you said RPG. Anyway, if your interested in any type games with some romances, PoP has it.
LEISURE SUIT LARRY

A different ''kind'' of romance though.... :)

I remember....but u mean Boo the Mouse? wasn't it Bubu?

Anyway...BG I believe even had a side quest that you could marry someone and buy your own castle.... I never did that cause I was EVIL EVIL EVIL

Also...I see ur a Witcher Fan.

To tell you the truth...I installed Witcher 3 times and uninstalled cause I could not get into it....mostly cause of the controls.

I gave it 1 more go a few weeks back...and I'm into it now, mainly cause I'm using the 3rd person camera up close behind Geraldt.
Mass Effect is a great example. The romance story arc is really the only part of the game that interested me, and the rest of the game was an anti-climax in comparison (no pun intended :D )
Lol, the relationship between Minsc and Boo, ''yeh that was epic romance'' between a big dumb nut and a hamster.

Romantic RPGs on PC?...LOL! I don't think there has ever been one like that, the sims and leisure suit larry are the closest things. Lol, and they are definitely not RPGs.

Mass effect did have a romantic scene in it but it was crap, the Witcher has love scenes but I would hardly call them romantic its more yeh door mat lust, you talk to them and they wanna spend the night together. Lol, Seriously PC games don't have that much romance in them or more the quality of the romance sucks to be exact.

But yeh you might as well go with the Witcher if any of those games. But check it on Youtube or watch some trailers before you buy it though, just so you know what your buying.

i got a 360 i just want to play some good pc games , cant really afford to save up
It's good to add more rams for your PC, that's about it, nothing's wrong with playing arcade PC games that's what I do most anyway.
She's dead, Jim.We're in the days of quad core processors and lightning fast GPUs. To get these games to run like they're meant to be run... correction, to get these games to run at all you're going to need something much more modern.Trust me, last month I moved from a 3ghz Pentium 4 to a core i7 - it's been an amazing experience. Once you've seen GTA 4 running at 1680*1050 at 50 fps with all the sliders maxed out there's just no going back.
No It's not worth upgrading, that computer is to old and you would be wasting your money. You are better off building a new one yourself..
Yeah, the parts you would have to put in that aren't even sold in many places anymore except for like Ebay. You would have to build a completely new one.
It's not worth upgrading it so just save up some money. you just have to wait.

Is F.E.A.R 2 Scary?

no, it relys on cheap ''MONSTER JUMPS OUT AND LOUD MUSIC PLAYS'' scares which are the lowest common denominator of scare tactics a game can use.Is F.E.A.R 2 Scary?
Well in the demo, the ''horror'' moments were just annoying.
Not really.
agreed, besides a few startles nothing scary at all
yes
no, in comparison with number 1 it's very tame.
Not even slightly.

It has it's moments
get a no cd crack
Uh...no. It'd be much better to go with the official patch.
oh sorry father ... rofl!
When will you guys learn? The patch doesn NOTHING to the game, in order to play it without the disk. The only thing you can do to make it run without the disc is to copy the MPQ files. You could have done this from day one of it's release but now Blizz ''hinted it'' officially. In Diablo 2 you have to copy 3 MPQ files if I remember correctly, in LOD you have to copy the music MPQ.
Install ''Full version'', apply 1.12 patch then copy all .MPQ files to Diablo2 directory.
ok, i tried to install said patch, but it says my current patch is more up to date. I have 1.11balso, I did the full install and I have 10 .mpq files in my D2 directory, but it still won't let me run it without a cdnow, i lent my cd to a buddy of mine, and he failed to return it... so, if i am missing mpq files, where can i get them?thanks, --Razor
one easy way to get it is to just register your CD key with blizzard. you are then able to download diablo 2 free from them with the latest updates and patch, and you don't need the cd to play. someone had my cd's, but luckily i kept the cd sleeve where the game key was. of course, the only downside is that you'd have to download about 1.5 GB which might take a few a hours.

Secondly, it's quite clear that the question was directed at the op. and Third and most importantly.''luckily i figured out blizzard lets you download the installer for free''That's not true...

''luckily i figured out blizzard lets you download the installer for free''That's not true...
Actually it is. All you have to do is register your CD key on Battle.net. If you haven't checked out the new Battle.net, you should hop over and take a peek.
Register the CD key with a Battle.net account(not a Diablo II account, but the thing I linked to). Download Diablo II via that, install it with that file, and you should be good to go.I assumed you could do it just by patching the game, but apparently not from what you have said. Note that you will not to be able to play online games using the same CD key, but I think you should be able to play via LAN that way. I'm not sure though; I've never tried it. At any rate, the method above you will let you play without the CD in the drive.

Need help with Godfather 2

I'm trying to kill the first Capo in New York City, and it says ''Execute him with a pistol''. And every time I go up there, I shoot him in the head with the regular pistol and nothing happens. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or does anyone have a solution?Need help with Godfather 2
I think execution is not the same as killing. I just started playing the game, but I have already seen an option to ''execute'' a groggy enemy. Need help with Godfather 2
When it's saying execute, it means you have to almost waste him, then when a '' (Yellow) Execute)'' appears, press F, you will execute him...

Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142

How are these games? Ive played bf 2 for the xbox, but not pc. Are they anything like 1942 and vietnam? Im considering buying them so imput is apreciatedBattlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142
BF2 is amazing, but BF2142 isn't that good...Just get BF2+expansionsBattlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142
Is the gameplay relateable to bf 1942 or vietnam?
Is it anything like bf2 on the 360?
It's far better than BF2 on the 360, and if you liked 1942 then you'll most likely enjoy BF2 on PC. Plus there are still quite a bit of players. (More than 2142 has that's for sure)
Are there any problems withh it on vista? Ive experienced some problems on this notebook with battlefield vietnam and also bf 1942. Can you guys play it with vista?
2142 is not a buy
Yeah, it's FAR better than the 360 version of BF2...However, it's a bit difficult online. But don't let that get you down, because it's loads of fun..Just make sure you can run it well because it gets a bit laggy online if you don't.
BF2 has more of a player base still around. Id get both to be honest. Theyre both really fun.BF2 - More people play it, pretty accurate and modern guns/vechilesBF2142 - Less people play it, cool vechiles and futuristic guns, mechs!!!!
2142 has better balancing than BF2. The difference is night and day. In 2142, infantry is actually a threat to vehicles, rather than being cannon fodder in BF2.Oh, and it has the best mechs you'll find in an online FPS.
Both are good games. I prefer BF2142, it's just more polished and cleaned up than BF2. Mainly, the classes are alot better. Either way, theyre virtually the same game, so you can't go wrong with either.

this is why i want to get battlefield 2142 i hated infantry combat and who ever dolphin dived first won.
Are they basically the same thing as bf 1942 and vietnam? becuase im gettin kinda tired of them...
They are good games but PunkBuster are annoying, it kicks for no reason at all even if the latest version is installed. :(
I believe ive been kicked by pb for no reason in bf 1942
BF2 is really bad. It is filled with imbalances and a very elitiest community. BF2142 is way more balanced, not sure about the community anymore though.
Are they basically the same thing as bf 1942 and vietnam? becuase im gettin kinda tired of them...
BF2 and BF2142 both have additions over each other, but they are still extremely similar to 1942 and Vietnam. If it's the type of play in 1942 and Nam that is causing you to look for new games to play, then I wouldn't recommend BF2 or 2142. However, if you're looking for upgraded versions of the games you already have, then you should absolutely pick them up as they are fantastic games.
WEll its appears that alot of battlefields have problems with teh 64 bit windows vista. Thats what ive expericned, also have looked online and i wasnt the only one with the problem
BF2 is essential. BF2142 is one hell of a game, it's so epic when you destroy the Titan in Titan mode.
BF2 is really bad. It is filled with imbalances and a very elitiest community. BF2142 is way more balanced, not sure about the community anymore though.
Hey, are you calling me an elitest? :P

It isn't ''very bad''. That is a very strong term. Maybe you suck so you blame it on ''a very bad game''. :P

(I kid)

More people on BF2, however both games are great, so why not get both if you can?

I totally agree with that. But if at least it's a good fun shooter to pass the time....it will be a good buy. They should put story links in there that aren't in the movie, like things that happen with ur character directly related to T1+2+3
Looks good but I won't get my hopes up yet.
I've been tracking this game fro a while, it's on my wanted list, GRIN doesn't make bad games, GRAW games were very good, Wanted Weapons Of Fate wasn't what I expected, but it was a different and pleasant experience...It looks Ok.

Will the 3 Starcraft II's and Diablo III support both PC & Mac in one packag

Well like before, it was awesome. I have had macs and pcs for years to play the games on, but when I got my gaming computer they have had a pretty good history of putting both versions in the same box package for 49.99 so I don't have to re-buy it when I already own a perfectly good copy! Will the 3 Starcraft II's and Diablo III support both PC %26amp; Mac in one packag
[This message was deleted at the request of the original poster]Will the 3 Starcraft II's and Diablo III support both PC %26amp; Mac in one packag
Yes, I guess.
They did that for World of Warcraft and Warcraft 3 didn't they? If so, I don't see why they wouldn't for Starcraft as well.
Bliizzard will probably release for both Mac and PC...

They also did it for the first two Diablos I believe. And Starcraft + Brood Wars.

I know for a fact they did it for Starcraft.

That's just how Blizzard rolls :D

They should make a new populous game.

I was looking through all my old stuff and found a cd-rom of Populous: The Beginning. What a great game. I've been playing it and it's so simple, yet so addictive. I know bullfrog doesn't exist anymore, but still, there should be a new one.

Best gaming laptop?

Hey, I am getting a gaming laptop and I was wondering which is the best choice? I want to have a laptop which can play games, e.g. Bioshock, Crysis and Call of Duty 4/5 without problem.I heard that the Alienware Area M15X was the best for gaming, but have also heard that the M17X is more powerful, albeit more expensive. At the end of the day, I care more about getting a laptop that can play games perfectly at the best graphical settings than having a laptop which has loads of memory or things like that.Which Alienware laptop is the best: the m15x, the m17x, or a different one entirely? Remember, don't throw specs at me - I'm a total PC n00b... I just care about knowing what laptop is best for a beginner who just wants to be able to play current and upcoming games without problem! Thanks!Best gaming laptop?
Before you jump and get an Alienware (good comp, over priced imo) check out other sellers. A few months ago PC gamer had a breakdown on gaming laptops and if I'm not mistaken they mentioned something about a gateway laptop that was cheaper and better in many ways than the Alienware. It's your choice. I game on my desktop only so I'm only going by what I've read. Good luck.Best gaming laptop?
Try asking this in the PC HW Forum.

Steam pricing???????

Ok, well, I felt like a dumbass, I bought left 4 dead about 2 days ago off of Steam for 50$......I then for some reason had the urge to go to newegg, I saw the hard copy of Left 4 dead with free shipping FOR 28$. Newegg selling for almost 50% off.....I did a look and almost ALL games on newegg are cheaper than steam, some ridiculously. Dawn of war 2/ steam = 50$ / newegg = 28$. I mean, wtf? And all games are free shipping to...I have a question then, if I click the little ''add non-Steam game'' on steam. Will Steam still automatically do all the updates and everything to that game? or would I have to purchase it through them?Steam pricing???????
For Steam games, like L4D or DoW2 ... yes, auto update will work. For non-Steam games , the answer is No.

I never played L4D (not an FPS lover) but one of my friend bought L4D (here in India) at $18 (Indian retail price of L4D) and then added it's serial to Steam... voila, he is enjoying the same experience and facilities like US or Europe customers but at very low cost. :DSteam pricing???????
It depends on the game. Gradually developers are starting to wake up to the fact that Steam is gaining popularity, and so they give you the option to add a non Steam game to your Steam account. Take Unreal Tournament 3 for example, you can buy that at retail, run it without Steam but if you want you can input the CD in Steam and then Steam will handle all the updates and everything like a normal Steam game. Other games require Steam even if you bought them for retail. The ones I know of are: Left4Dead, Empire Total War and Dawn of War 2; Steam will treat them as normal Steam games with auto updates etc. I believe you can also activate Dawn of War 1 content using CD keys for online play if you buy one game on Steam but I'm not totally sure on that.
Depends on the game. All retail VALVe games (which, sadly, includes L4D) can be activated on Steam. Only a handful of other publishers games (UTIII for example) can currently be activated on Steam.
I never buy anything on Steam. You can usually find better pricing else where. Here are a list of games that can be activated on steam. To me steam updates games slowly.https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601#which
So basically if Steam will treat most retail games the same, just never buy from Steam again? I mean, I love steam but the price differences between them and newegg is just silly, almost 50% off??? And it's not on sale?...wow.
So basically if Steam will treat most retail games the same, just never buy from Steam again? I mean, I love steam but the price differences between them and newegg is just silly, almost 50% off??? And it's not on sale?...wow.
steam is only really good for games that you can't find anywhere else due to it's age IMO.

If you are talking about L4D, DoW2 or similar games that are dependent on Steam, then you can buy from Retail, then add it to Steam and you are ready for Steam Auto-update feature. This way you'll save money as well as you can avail Steam services. :P
It's also great when they have discounts, or for Australian gamers like me (the games are sometimes cheaper on Steam - but not always).

wasting**
Your gonna need a new rig. P4's are pretty outdated by today's standards.
well thats nice to no people were completly avoiding my question, i am updating the computer so can someone please help me
If your box is a P4 then you're probably looking for an AGP video card. They really don't stack up against today's demanding games. The market has really moved over to the superior PCI Express platform for graphics. What little we know about your computer tells us that it is completely outdated.I would recommend saving your money until you can afford to replace the computer with something newer that supports PCI-E. But you can certainly still upgrade your machine if you want to. Assuming that you do have an AGP slot, here are some choices among ''new'' cards. You could also try to find something used from someone who is selling off his old working hardware to upgrade, on a site like craigslist or something.
thanks

• If you are going for the bank, just go all tanks and build some engi.
• SPAM mine fields at the narrow passageways as much as you can. (multi-task..if they come from north...go spam at south)
• If they have mortors or rockets hailing down on you, just send 1 m10 or sherman in the back door.
• Always keep your tank repaired, even if it means giving up a flank.
• Once you are done spamming the minefields, the tiger tanks will usually have their tracks broken, so you can finish them off pretty easily.
• Research pop cap if you have extra resources or really really need it.
• At the end..I built [1] m8 [1] m10 [4] shermans [2] m26 [4] engi.

have you ever heard about the arabic rappelz game??

Game Power 7 has completed the preparatory stages for launching the commercial phase of the first MMO Online Game in the Middle East %26 North Africa, Arabic Rappelz.

The game has gone through two beta test phases achieving an amazing rise in popularity among Arab players.

Arabic Rappelz is a 3D MMORPG game, i.e. gamers play on the Internet and interact with other players through their avatar in a 3D world. The game is the first of its kind to be published in the region.
The female characters have to be fully covered with some kind of robe probably.
Actually, there is a grain of truth to that. I searched Google to see what the difference was besides the language and I found this:
Launching today and available as a free-to-play download, Rappelz is the first MMORPG specifically designed for Arabic language players across North Africa and the Middle East. Various details of the game have been modified to better fit in with Islam culture. These include new sound effects for monsters and player characters, and modified costumes for female characters to cover more skin.
It isn't to that extreme though. Here's a screen shot:So yeah, don't worry; females in games still are dressing more for a strip tease than they are for combat, even in Arabic versions. You can rest assured that having women who actually dress like normal human beings in games won't be a problem any time soon.
early December Dubai-based publisher Game Power 7 announced the launch of the ''first Arabic MMO''-a localization of the Korean MMO Rappelz-and they have now announced a payment service agreement with CashU, apparently ''the dominant prepaid internet payment service in the Arab world.''

CashU is a prepaid Internet payment service, designed as a payment alternative in countries where credit card penetration is extremely low, and is now available in 28 countries worldwide.

This news precedes the official release of Rappelz, expected in early February 2009.

And if you're interested in the story behind Game Power 7, they're apparently a subsidiary of Weiss Investment, which operates a regional media hub that is ''sensitive to the region's cultural values,'' and has operated in the region for the past 20 years localizing and producing media contents targeting kids and youth, and broadcasting them through their satellite TV channels.
residing in the middle east for 18 years now...

Graphical Issues with Dark Messiah

Hey guys, I recently got Dark Messiah with the Ubisoft Classic Pack, and so far, I'm loving it! However, I'm having a few graphical issues which are preventing me from fully enjoying the game. I am getting frequent FPS drops, and it doesn't seem to be my hardware thats causing it. My specs are well beyond the recommended requirements, we are talking quadruple the recommended requirements here. Whenever I go to a new area, the FPS starts out at around 60 fps, even higher in some spots, but the more I play, the more the FPS deteriorates, even when I am in areas that are not particularly fps intensive. I have never had any sort of lag issues with any other source engine games. I also noticed that if I change the graphics settings, and by that I mean raising or lowering them, the fps goes back to 60 or so and then starts dropping again. The FPS also resets itself after it loads up a new area.Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated, this game is awesome but It's way too frustrating to play with the framerate drops. Thanks in advance,

I am having the EXACT same problem and am trying to fix it. In addition, I am getting horrible FPS drops while playing Beyond Good and Evil. They were so bad that I uninstalled it. If Far Cry has the same problems, I'm going to try and get my money back from Ubisoft; releasing a collection of games that proceed to lag like crazy is unacceptable in my opinion.Graphical Issues with Dark Messiah

i get no lag in beyond good and evil, but i have a horrible visual issue

its like a lot of text and objects (like everything in the pause menu) rips or something when things move, its really weird. i've tried compatibiltiy mode, but that didn't fix anything

far cry 1 is giving me no troubles, but i think a lot of sprites appear way to close to me, but that might just be because the game is old
Just downloaded updated video drivers. As far as I can tell they had no impact whatsoever. I'm really fed up and probably going to shelve these games. Way to fail yet again, Ubisoft. And here I was hoping this pack would be a good way to play stuff I'd missed... Sorely mistaken.
I have the same issue. It's definitely a Video Memory leak. I've looked all of the forums and there's no solution to this issue. If you find one, will you let me know?Right now I'm just doing a work around where you save/load the game every few minutes. The problem is, that it gets worse as you reach the end of the game. Around chapter 6 and 7 I'm loading every 50seconds, which is just unbearable.
I have tried doing what you said (save/reload every so often) and even with all the settings as low as possible, it starts lagging after as little as 10 seconds and i have to reload within a minute or so... and I'm on Chapter 3 or 4. This is ridiculous. Yeah, if you find something, let me know here. I'll do the same.
I don't have this issue. Is it a problem with Nvidia cards?
Well I've got an NVidia card, so perhaps... Latest drivers didn't do squat for it though. Hopefully someone out there finds a fix, although it seems this game has had a lot of bugginess in the past so I won't be surprised if it's never dealt with, or can't be.
I remember this problem from the retail version of DM but it should be all fixed now.
I remember this problem from the retail version of DM but it should be all fixed now.
Nah, it's still there. Steam should have updated my game and I tried installing 1.02 manually, but it gave me an error. it could be that steam stores most of DMs files in .ncf... but I'd have no idea how to test that without purchasing a boxed version.

If anyone has both the boxed and the steam version, they could test it.
I may have found a solutioncheck out =49= on this postit basicly says type in launch options '-heapsize 1048576'
i tried this fix and it APPEARED to work, but unfortunately, after a few blissful minutes with no lag, the slowdown started up again... a pity.
i tried this fix and it APPEARED to work, but unfortunately, after a few blissful minutes with no lag, the slowdown started up again... a pity.
Yeah, same here.
I played it when it first came out with a 8800gts (320) and didn't have this issue...I also played it on both the STEAM and retail versions.
Anyone find anything yet? I've been searching all over for some sort of fix...
Bump.
Exact same issue with me, nothing seems to work though....then again every ubisoft port is horrible and never optimized I dare someone to find a good one :P
How low of a framerate are we talking about here? My specs also well exceed the requirements, but I was unable to play the game with all high settings. It worked for a bit, but some areas were just too choppy, so I had to turn a lot of stuff down to medium. It's smooth now, and doesn't deteriorate over time or anything. Just wondering what settings you have tried, or if this issue is completely separate from graphics settings :)
Its the textures...drop them to medium and lose the lag.
Exact same issue with me, nothing seems to work though....then again every ubisoft port is horrible and never optimized I dare someone to find a good one :P
Gimme mha cookies ;), Prince of Persia games, Dark Messiah (yeah no issues here), Assassin's Creed, HAWX, and it goes on ;).

None of this are horrible ports, if you say one of them sucks, that's because it sucks for you, but not being as good as one expects doesn't make it a bad port, also I didn't have any issues with DM on a 6600GT, Pentium IV 2.2ghz, 512 RAM, and I certainly didn't have any with the Steam version that has a few patches and I play it on a way better PC.

16:9 or 16:10 WHAT WOULD YOU DO ?

Ill keep it short

Last thursday i went out and bought this monitor form Best Buy

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9218786%26st=Hannspree+%40)%26lp=2%26type=product%26cp=1%26id=1218061081362

I thought it would be good for gaming but the resolution isn't that good and my games are very stretched, especially Medieval 2 total war. I believe this is because of the extreme 16:9 Wide screen ratio.

I am planning on returning this to best buy on Monday and pick up this 16:10

Gateway monitor while it is on sale.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8894093%26type=product%26id=1211587387624

What do you guys think?

Thank you for reading this and will appreciate any reply16:9 or 16:10 WHAT WOULD YOU DO ?
16:10 is nice, but you shouldn't be paying a lot of extra money for it.16:9 or 16:10 WHAT WOULD YOU DO ?
16:10 is nice, but you shouldn't be paying a lot of extra money for it.
Do u have a 16:10 monitor? if so what do u think of it
There's not really much to tell here, it's just a little wider than the other. You shouldn't bother trading your 16:9, it's fine the way it is.
16:10 isn't worth extra money. I have it it's just a little wider if that helps :P

Plus some games don't support 16:9, those are usually lazy console ports.
I have a 16:10 monitor, and I like it a lot. If you got the money, go for it, in fact, go for a 24'' screen. Games look fantastic on this resolution. I was playing games at 1024x768 resolution earlier, so this is a huge improvement for me.
Aren't most monitors 16:10 anyway?

And you aren't paying more money for a 16:10, your paying more money on the monitor itself. The screen ratio really doesn't impact price. Chandul, you use Internet Explorer? :P
I have a 16:10 monitor and its great. Its wierd looking at a 16:9 screen though as everything seems squashed.
Aren't most monitors 16:10 anyway??? I thought 16:9 was just for T.V
I wouldn't run out and replace it with a more expensive monitor just to get 16:10, even knowing that more games might support it. For computers, 16:9 is a relatively new thing. So it may be a while before the majority of PC games support new 16:9 resolutions. But at the same time you've got multiplatform games like FEAR2 coming out where you can choose your 16:10 resolution in the settings (1680x1050 for me) and not actually get it. The game literally only does 16:9 and will itself show you black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. The actual image is something like 1680x945 for me.I was a somewhat early adopter into the land of widescreen for PC. So I've been dealing with games that ''don't fit'' for a while now. By default if your resolution is not available you of course have to choose something lower and let the monitor stretch it out. This usually looks like crap, but there is another option.Being an NVIDIA user, I set the control panel's ''flat panel scaling'' option to ''Do not scale''. I'm not sure if the ATI software has a similar option, but the point is this: For games that don't offer me my 1680x1050, I choose the highest resolution offered that will fit on screen. A lot of times this is 1280x1024. It will be centered on screen with black bars around it, but the image will be crisp.
I like my 16:10, 16:9 is nice for watching Movies but its not good for Games.
YEah, as you can see, worth to pay for a 16:10.

Ok i think most of the people are saying what i think and 19:10 is better for games. I am definetly taking my 20'' 19:9 back early tomorrow morning then. Nice but i don't want to do generic brand. I would rather go with a better well know brand
Don't be scared of generic! with over 400+ newegg reviews it has a 4/5 star rating, that is quite commendable :) Considering the gateway you want with 3/5 with 22 people reviewing it =/ (not trying to say anything mean...just sayin the facts)

yea i noticed thank. Thanks for the input but remember not everyone who bought that monitor left a review and it seems like with best buy most people who leave reviews only do because they were unsatisfied with their product.

I have messaged people on YouTube who own that gateway and they say the like it. I also found these reviews.

it happens a bit for me it's like u hear a machine gun shooting for the entire round online
If you liked SWAT 4 you will probably like Vegas
You can always find some games online at any hour. I play the game around 5 hours a week and usually just host my own matches. Yes, the sound bug is annoying, but I think if you join a server with less than 50 ping, you should be fine. Its somewhat addictive for the first few levels, but then later it comes to a grind if you want a certain gun. If you can pick up the game for $20, then it should be fun for awhile..but dont pay more than that.
The game itself is pretty good and I personally enjoyed it, and it lacks the pointless rank system of the second which is nice. It's not the greatest port, and the sound glitches happen to me as well on both the first and second. Overall if you have a decent up to date PC you shouldn't have any problems playing it though.

As far as I can remember the multiplayer for the first one is basically dead, the second one still has some people playing though. (Mostly the Coop and terrorist hunt, but there are a few 8vs8 servers now and then.)
I love Vegas 2. The cover system is well done and flawlessly switches between first and third person. The game makes you feel like an action hero because you pop out for a second and pop someone in the head with your pistol then charge forward with a smg. You can typically find a multiplayer match during anytime of the day, but the community is small. You can customize your character though, which is very cool.
The first Vegas in my opinion, is worst than the second one, but it's worth buying it, great game...

Here in Aus there used to be a shop called Games Wizards.... they used to trade in PC games before the internet erawhy couldnt we trade in pc games at game shops?
Lots of shops sell used PC games where I live, and for very low prices too. ;) I've found some games for 2,50 %26euro;.
I haven't seen any used PC games being sold in America. Shops don't like taking PC games in because of CD keys.If you want to sell a PC game best bet is eBay and the like. I've bought tons of used PC games from eBay no problem. Just make sure the seller you're buying from is reputable.
Why would one want to?

I have every single PC game I ever bought still going all the way back to B-1 Nuclear Bomber in 1981.
because alot of PC games use CD-keys. So before they sell it they would have to check and see if the key works and everything. Overrall a big waste of time and will never happen.
EBGames in the US and Canada used to accept trade-ins for PC games, but they stopped that practice. They only choice now is Ebay or GTZ (Game Trade Zone).http://gametz.com/
because alot of PC games use CD-keys. So before they sell it they would have to check and see if the key works and everything. Overrall a big waste of time and will never happen.
oh yeah, that makes sense i guess...... thanks for the posts everyone
Gamestation in the UK does trade ins.
Actually, in the U.S, E.B Games did take used PC games as trade ins before online activation became a big thing. They pretty much stopped accepting them when they got acquired by Gamestop (maybe even a bit before) and sold off whatever inventory they had dirt cheap. Actually, managed to get a ton of great games cheap during one of their sales.
When EB Games took trade ins, they didn't give you squat for your games. They still rip you off if when you trade in console games. Better off taking your chance on E-Bay or something like that.
Why would one want to?
Agreed.
I have every single PC game I ever bought still going all the way back to B-1 Nuclear Bomber in 1981.
Epic.
I'm also a save-my-games-forever kind of person. I deeply regret selling my 2600 and SNES, even though I'm more into PC gaming now. Every once in a while something goes ''click'' and I just have to play one of my old games.
Like people said, CD-keys. It was allowed for a short period of time, but we unpredictably abused the heck out of it and got the ability to trade in said games taken away at mainstream places.
Lots of the game stores are major rip offs. They don't want to sell PC games because most people don't go into those stores looking for them per say. They just want Console games and would have a ton of PC ones that become out of date for your PC. Major chains won't take themmuch or at all but small private stores are more likely.

Is it just me or did Dawn of War 2 FAIL comparred to Dawn of War: Dark Crusade?

well i am a true Dawn of War fan and these are a few problems i found to RUIN Dawn of War 21. NO BASE BUILDING! Building bases wass really fun in DoW-DC and it made the game much more enjoyable IMO2. ONLY 4 FACTIONS! DoW-DC has 7!!! and you could play all of them in campagian not only 1!!!!3. ONLY SPACE MARINES IS CAMPAGIAN! First of all you only have 4 factions then you only make as play 1 in the campagain!?!?!?!?!? WTF!?!?!?!?Sure...online is better but these things (No base building mainly) ruined the game for me!LONG LIVE DAWN OF WAR: DARK CRUSADE!!!!Is it just me or did Dawn of War 2 FAIL comparred to Dawn of War: Dark Crusade?
Yes, Dawn of War 2 has only 4 factions, just like the original Dawn of War.
Dawn of War: Dark Crusade is the 2nd expansion, and over the span of two expansions, Relic had the time to add 3 new factions....

Give Relic time to expand on Dawn of War 2. I'll bet we'll see more factions and campaigns in future expansions/DLC.Is it just me or did Dawn of War 2 FAIL comparred to Dawn of War: Dark Crusade?
Dark Crusade was the highest level Relic could achieve using the previous mechanics and game engine. DC destroys the original Dow. Relic tried something new meaning that the level is currently still stuck at Dow 1 level, but give it a few more patches/expansions and I'm sure that they will reach the same level of quality.
for me the problem with DoW 2 was the extremely repetitive nature of the missions and the unexciting combat, i did not feel immersed nor did i care about the units.

Very disappointing.
Good job comparing a recently released sequel to a game which has had three expansion packs already. :
|my point id Relic could have added 7 factions if they really had tryed AND noone has said anything about the base building

I STILL HATE NO BASE BUILDING I HATE IT SOOO MUCH!
First of all, the edit button exists for a purpose.Secondly, Dawn of War II's campaign contains a good deal of cinematics, voice-acting, and such on top of a lot of different units that had to be developed, wargear, abilities, and I doubt the scripting process was easier than the original Dawn of War, considering you have to have a dynamic ''mission spawn'' system.Making an Ork campaign would require just as much effort, and it cannot have the same direction as a Space Marine campaign since Orks have a spam mentality and rarely have long-lasting ''elite'' squads, so some extra planning has to go into it. You also need plot devices to tell you WHY you're fighting a certain race and whatnot. All of which add to the development load.Thirdly, the lack of BB's been known by pretty much everyone since a few days after the announcement. It's not Relic's fault you decided to buy a game you didn't properly research.By the way, basebuilding didn't really add much to the original Dawn of War 1 compared to Dawn of War II. You still have an economy and you need to manage it, you can still train units and upgrade them and whatnot, and basebuilding in the first game was actually designed to take a backseat to combat so that players of the game don't have to deal with constructing giant fortresses of crap and manufacturing Space Marines from factories before they get on the shooting. Company of Heroes took it a step further, and Dawn of War II took it another step further. The only real ''meaning'' for BB in DoW1 was when you erected defences.... which you can do in Dawn of War II anyway.
I preferred DOW2, even if it is a bit repetitive.

I don't think I agree with you. DC's skirmishes were brilliant fun and the sripted ending sequences of each race were done really nice. DC is a much more traditional RTS game while DoW2 focusses more on tactics, personally I don't mind the shift but somehow the tactical level just isn't interesting enough to keep me playing. If you compare it to CoH you may even call it dumbed down.
They only released four factions so they can milk the game with expansions. What's the last RTS you played that didn't get an expansion? Exactly. RTS games are built around the idea of expansions. You may not realise this, but Dark Crusade is an expansion, not a full game (despite being stand-alone). Compare Dawn of War 2 to Dawn of War, not to its second expansion.Base building was removed to focus the player even more on combat, allowing the game to more accurately represent the TT game. I understand your concern; DoW2 is a more accurate representation of the TT game while DoW1 isn't really even slightly a representation of the TT game. In a sense, Dawn of War 2 is not Dawn of War 2 -- it is not the sequel to Dawn of War as much as an entirely new line, with fundamentally altered gameplay. The strength of the IP and the incentive to sequal-up notwithstanding, had I been working on the game, I would probably not have called it Dawn of War. People who were expecting a game like Dawn of War must be quite disappointed, especially if they didn't play CoH.The SM only campaign was a conscious choice as Relic felt one good, well written campaign would be preferable to several mediocre, interchangeable campaigns. I haven't played the DoW2 campaign, but in principle, Relic is right. Look at Homeworld. Imagine if that campaign was replaced by four campaigns -- it would ruin the game.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you guys over the sound of Empire:Total War.
If you liked DoW: DC , keep playing it... no one is telling you not to.Relic didn't want to make the same game twice... they tried a different approach, because of their success with DoW... they didn't want to simply ''update'' a few minor details. That would be what a lot of other devs out there are doing now....Anyway, having success with DoW:DC, Relic wanted to make a ''different'' kind of game, something such that if someone didn't like it (someone like OP), you can just keep playing the original.By changing the gameplay from the original, Relic is obviously going to have a wide range of responses (positive to negative)... but they have the original DoW to back them up in case people want to go back to base building.
First tell the Truth, did you really have the CD, or just lie and get it from the Pirate Bays?
Even if he was lying and it was pirated, he's not going to say so as that gets you banned on this forum (Pretty stupid reason for getting banned imo, but that's irrelevant.) Also, this is an ancient game, so it's probable that there are errors like this and I know for a fact that i used to get this error when I tried to run RCT on Vista a while back before getting my Windows 98 Virtual Machine set up. I would recommend running the game in the Windows 98 compatibility mode. I ran RCT on Windows XP for a very long time with very few problems before I got Vista with my new PC.
I have played this game on both XP *and* Vista with no issues after installing the latest patch.
Actually, two things i thought of. did you save your game, then install a patch, then try to load the map? I think i actually remember reading in the readme that you aren't supposed to load savegames that were done before a patch was applied due to changes. Another thing that came to my mind randomly this morning is that, the file extension the game uses for savegame files is .sc2, which is the same extension that the game SimCity 2000 used, make sure that the RCT save files are set to open with RCT (right click on that type of file, make sure ''opens with'' is set to Roller Coaster Tycoon.)

Women 25-54 are...

The largest group of gamers taking up nearly 29% of pc gamers and take about the same amount of gaming time.

Haha, one of my female friends absolutely loves F.E.A.R's online. She only plays the PS3 version though. The only PC games she plays are the AoE games last I checked.

they count these games in every other poll or figure talking about PC gaming though, so might as well count it here too
I'm a 26 yr old ''Woman'' and I play ''Real Games'' ... not just solitare or mindsweeper. I can't even remember when I last played those games. Talked to a lot of women at work and they were into games too. We're out there, you just don't see us. I also collect video games. I have over 700. I bet the stats are correct or even too low.................
I play LOTRO..and there's loads of women playing it. Probably the same as any other MMORPG.
That's also a large coverage in age. The typical demographics are usually between 10-15 years, not 30 years. Still women 18-25 are the fastest growing group in the video gaming industry and have made up a large enough chunk that designers are slowly starting to gear games towards them a bit.

The Last Remnant: Steam or Gamestop

I have a question for all PC-gamers out there: If my computer can run the Last Remnant Demo on the lowest possible settings, would downloading the game through Steam or actually buying the physical game make it easier for my computer to run? I have checked the requirements for both, and they are the same, so I know I can play the game without problems, I just don't know if having the game in my disc drive makes a difference. I am primarily a console gamer (only games on my laptop are Geometry Wars and Starcraft), so I have no clue if this even makes a difference. And in the event case anyone wants to know, here is what my laptop is like:-100GB hard drive-Intel Core Duo 2.2GHz processor-2GB of RAMI would include my video card, but I don't know how to figure out what it is. Regardless, thanks in advance for the advice. The Last Remnant: Steam or Gamestop
Wouldn't change a bit whether or not you buy it from Steam or Gamestop. The retail version requires Steam, so either way you are going to use Steam. The Last Remnant: Steam or Gamestop
It doesn't make any difference where you get it. It's the same game, same code.If you want to know what your graphic specs are, download and run GPU-Z
if it was me, i'd buy it from steam just to show how much i hate gamestop

Screen Help with braid

So I just got Braid, but I can't get the entire game screen to show up. I went under settings to adjust it, but I still can't get the four corners on screen. I thought adjusting my PC's screen rez would do the trick, but also nothing. If someone could help me out it would be amazing since, as of now, the game is practically unplayable.Screen Help with braid
