What's happened to Sim City?

Apart from some Sim City spin offs we haven't had a Sim City for 4 years now. What's happened to this great game? I still play Sim City 4 Deluxe and still love this game even after all these years. There seems to be alot of talk about Sim City 5 but nothing confirmed. What's happened to Sim City?
Well they released Simcity Societies, which was easier to manage then Simtown. What's happened to Sim City?
Well recently Will Wright has left the software side of things and Maxis is now running without him. To everyone's knowledge they're not working on a Sim City 5 right now. Certainly nothing has been announced.

In the meantime you might check out Cities XL due for release this year by Monte Cristo. It claims to be not as insipid as it's predecessor City Life was.
yeah, check out Cities XL - look for previews in this site. Looks promising.
I hope Cities XL has good support for Single Player only as well as it does fro Multiplayer. I want my cities to grow large.City Life was too difficult imo. Always mid-game I started to get only Have-Nots(the lowest class residents)Im currently on a break from SimCity 4, but have been thinking of continuing. Goal is I can get 10 million sims living in the region. Currently it's around 7.
