Is there any advantage or disadvantage from downloading a game through steam rather than buying the disk? about downloading on steam. . .
As for content, not really. However, you can download a game, and use it to it's fullest (full multi-player capabilities, etc) on any computer that you have steam installed on. So, if you're going on vacation and won't have access to your desktop, you can get it on any other computers without the need to lug around discs and potentially have issues with DRM. about downloading on steam. . .
But if you buy off steam (and no on CD) re-downloading the game every time you want to play may take a while, longer than install from CD
the one huge advantage is that you can download steam on any computer and retrieve your games and play them. i have a laptop, and i sometimes use it for games when i'm on the road. it's nice to be able to download whichever game that i feel like playing without having to carry my 100 steam games around, since my hard drive on my laptop isn't big enough to have all 100 games installed at the same time.
Steam Rocks house. I seem to lose things to easily so at least with steam I dont worry about loosing the Cd Key or anything.

Same here. I feel like retail is a risk, and Steam is a true investment for me nowadays.

You can back them on a disk, steam lets you do that
ok so the feedback has beein positive. Im one of those people who like to know a lot about something before trying it for the first time. If theres really no cons with steam i guess im gonna use it!
bare in mind that it takes 4-8 hours to download a game depending on your broadband speed while it takes me 5 minutes to drive to the nearest Game. Steam is usually more expensive than internet shops or in many instances the high street stores plus of course you have the hassle of re-downloading everything or have to back things up when you change comp.
For me the Game store just down the road wins it everytime but i'll use Steam if it's cheaper and I can wait the extra day.

well the only reason i asked about steam was because my local gamestop said the original crysis was discontinued and they didnt have STALKER. Besides i downloaded STALKER this morning and it took less than an hour
