IMO DMC 3 works perfectly fine on a keyboard, DMC 4 is awkward on a keyboard, but it works, it's a lot better on a gamepad.
I use a logitech rumblepad 2 its the best.

I second that :P I have a cordless one and it rocks, I also have a ChillStream, but I absolutely hate the Xbox design :/.

Nonetheless, DMC is made to play with a gamepad.

While controller is nice, DMC 4 works just fine on keyboard from my experience. I've only had minor problems with Dante's weapon switching (which goes in a cyclic pattern) or tapping complicated moves like Exceeding-Calibur while holding a gun charge. I don't know if these would be better on a controller, due to the sheer amount of buttons involved at once. The one and only occasion when I've missed it was Pandora's Revenge attack, which requires you to ''spin LS controller twice in any direction''. Translated to keyboard, those are the direction keys, meaning that the required sequence is mashing W-D-S-A quickly twice or thrice. Since they're also movement, you're lucky to ever trigger it, let alone aim at something with revenge.

Although I've never heard of PS2 Controller compatibility on PC before.
