how is widescreen for gaming? or is standard better?windescreen monitors.
widescreen IS the standard :Pwindescreen monitors.
Widescreen is literally one of the best upgrades I have ever done for gaming. Don't bother with standard CRT's or LCD's...they are on their way out (as far as gaming is concerned).
I love my widescreen. I am never going back to 4:3.
i heard that some games don't play on widescreen monitors.
Every game works with wide screen, just older games might not support widescreen resolutions so either the image is stretched or you have to play in windowed.Mmost games made in the last 5 years should be fine...but the further you go back the higher the chance the game will not support those resolutions.
what monitor is better?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009126http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236058

what about battlefield 2? or 1942
I've never come across a game that wouldnt play on a widescreen. They may stretch out over the extra width or you can use Widescreen Fixer to alter the view on a lot of games. Most modern games have widescreen resolutions as standard. Getting a widescreen monitor will be one of the best investments you can make

As for BF2, I am not sure (though I do own it) but I believe it should as it's fairly recent.*edit*Check out:http://www.widescreengaming.net/wiki/Main_PageYou can check any game and if it supports wide screen...BF2 seems you can but might have to use command line to force it.
16:9 or 16:10 resolution is the way to go now. Don't bother about 4:3 screen.
Widescreen is the way the go, i actually feel like im missing some of the action if/when i play in 4:3 :?
widescreen is better as u get a wider FOV so u can see more stuff on screen and proves to ur advantage in games. the only problem is older games dont usually support wide screen resolutions.
I have nothing against widescreen, but I have against LCD monitors. Why would I spend 100+ %26euro; on a monitor with lower resolution, inferior black, blurred image if not using native resolution... When I already have a better CRT, or if I didn't I could get one for like 5-10 euros. CRT = best bang for your buck, and since I'm not a millionaire I always aim for that. There's nothing wrong with 4:3, it's just this widescreen/''HD'' fad that makes people think so.

Fad? You got it all wrong bud. Expect more and more for game companies to move primarily to wide screen formats. Seriously OP, don't listen to these antiquated type opinions. Wide screen LCD's are definitely the standard for gaming, and in new games provide a FAR better experience then your CRT. It's like night and day. BTW, this is coming from someone who owned top of the line CRT's...I used to swear by them...no more. I would NEVER...and I mean NEVER go back to CRT's...and once you move on to a new LCD...neither will you.
The only real argument for CRT's over LCD's (as far as gaming is concerned) is better native experience with old games. So unless that's what you plan to primarily play, don't waste your time with a CRT.
I have to agree. I used to love CRTs, but now, its all LCD for me.

not true, i've never heard of one b4 anyways.

I don't see what's so special about widescreen, it'll just cause incompabilities with older games (which I play a lot.) As long as I have a functioning CRT, why should I just ditch it? When my CRT will finally die (about 10+ years from now) there will be better displays, like OLED. LCD is unnecessary and expensive, the only good thing about it is that it takes up less space. Sure if you've got a lots of money then go for it - me personally, I'd rather spend my money on, you know, the actual games.Show me an LCD monitor that is;- Under 10 %26euro;.- Supports all resolutions from 320x200 to 2048x1536 without blurring them.- Has superior black levels, hint: none of them have better than CRT does. Then I shall gladly ''upgrade''. What you guys see in them is beyond me. I've seen some high-end LCDs in use, I wasn't impressed at all.
I don't have a CRT though. I have an 18'' regular LCD, i want to upgrade to a 20'' windescreen LCD.

It's the standard now, and will only get more concrete as time goes on. All media is moving to widescreen. TV's, desktops, laptops, heck everything...even phones and portable gaming devices are moving to widescreen. And I find it pretty funny how you can't see the serious flaw in your logic....you don't consider it ''upgrading'' because you want to play old games...you are stuck in the past...which is opposite of upgrading. At any rate, you can still play old games just fine with a WS LCD.And you points against LCD's don't even hold up today...today's LCD's are sharp, bright, and have great black levels. There's no more ghosting either. And yes, LCD's do cost money...that's what happens when you upgrade.Nothing wrong with sticking to your CRT, jsut know you aren't getting the full experience anymore, especially with new games.OP, just look at the opinions in this thread...everyone who upgraded to a nice LCD love them, and would NEVER go back. The only people who advocate CRT's are people who have not yet made the transition. That ought to tell you something...
